Dr. Salomon Doncel-Moriano Urbano is a professional translator and scholar specializing in the intersection of otaku culture, translation, and fan studies. His current research explores how otaku communities influence professional translation practices in manga and anime.
 
He is a two-time recipient of the Emerging Scholar Award from Common Ground Research Networks, honoured in 2025 and 2026 in recognition of his contributions to the study of anime, manga and translation. He currently combines his role as Assistant Professor at Aoyama Gakuin University (Tokyo), with his work as a translator for platforms such as Netflix, Amazon and NHK.

Some of his most notable translation works are the anime Sailor Moon CosmosSailor Moon EternalDetective Conan, Cosmic Princess Kaguya, and Lupin III; the live-action series Yu Yu Hakusho; the films Godzilla 1.0 and Ultraman Rising; and the manga Shigatsu wa Kimi no UsoNijigahara Holograph, and Koe no Katachi.
